In a super secret meeting between Marvel and Weeds actor Mateus Ward, an audition took place with the 16-year-old which could have him playing Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War.

If we go by his Batman t-shirt, it would seem as though Mateus Ward is a DC fan, but a new report suggests this young actor may be playing a young web-slinger in future Marvel and Sony Spider-Man films.

Badass Digest reports that an incredibly secret meeting took place at actor Mateus Ward’s house this weekend, and it was so that they could keep it under wraps. Well, the jig us up, as we now know that 16-year-old War was being auditioned for Spider-Man.

Marvel and Sony are most likely doing dozens of these types of auditions, behind closed doors, due to the fact that they need to cast an actor to replace Andrew Garfield in a hurry. The report suggests that it’s impossible to know if Ward will get the role of Spider-Man, but that it’s a good sign that we’re hearing he was being auditioned for the highly sought-after role.

The young actor being cast would fall in line with what we’ve been hearing from Marvel and Sony sources, which is that they want to cast a very young Spider-Man, that way he can grow up as the movies progress. Spider-Man is supposedly going to have at least a cameo in Captain America: Civil War, which shoots in just two weeks, but they could easily shoot Spider-Man’s role at a later date, even after production has ended if they wanted to include him in some way.

As the reports mention, while we have had a high-school Peter Parker before, this would be the first time that the character would actually be played by an age appropriate actor. 16 is incredibly young to take on such a massive role, but it’ll be interesting to see if Marvel and Sony find the perfect fit for their new Spider-Man, who will be in multiple Marvel movies, including several solo Spider-Man films.

What do you think about Mateus Ward playing Spider-Man?

It would seem to confirm that they are going with the Peter Parker storyline, and we look forward to finding out who lands the role over the next few weeks.
