Spider-Man 3 is bringing Alfred Molina back to reprise his role as one of the web slinger’s most infamous foes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Alfred Molina has officially singed on to join the cast of Spider-Man 3.

Molina is no stranger to the spider-verse. In fact, the last time the actor appeared in the franchise was back in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, where Molina played Otto Octavius, better known to most as the sinister Doctor Octopus.

For Spider-Man 3, Molina will once again be back in action as Doctor Octopus— news that is bound to be exciting to Spidey fans everywhere.

Molina isn’t the only franchise vet returning to reprise his role as an iconic character.

As we learned back in October, Academy Award winner Jamie Fox is also on hand to return. He’ll be reprising his role as the villain Electro, who last squared off against Peter Parker in the Andrew Garfield led sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Molina and Fox join fellow recently announced cast member Benedict Cumberbatch, who will reprise his Avengers character of Doctor Strange for the threequel.

Other returning cast members include Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, and Tony Revolori.

Plot details for the threequel are being kept firmly under wraps for now, but if recent casting news is anything to go by, Spidey fans are in for one wild ride when the third installment of the franchise hits theaters.

Currently, Spider-Man 3 is slated to swing on to theaters in 2021, but due to pushback in production schedules across Hollywood as a result of the ongoing pandemic, it’s likely fans will have to wait a bit longer for the threequel to debut.
