21 years after the Spice Girls released their “Wannabe” music video, a feminist remake is released to support women’s rights.

I’ll tell you what I want, #WhatIReallyReallyWant: Equal rights for women. Simple, right?

Apparently not. But hopefully, this kickass remake of Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” from The Global Goals will help spread the positive message of female empowerment:

The video is done very much in the original ’90s music video style (a.k.a. the best style ever), showing women and girls striding confidently down hallways and streets around the world.

Not only is this a fantastic display of global unity and female empowerment, but the women involved just look like they’re fulfilling their biggest dream of starring a Spice Girls music video.

And, having attended many a kids’ disco Spice Girls impersonation party myself, I can very much identify with that sentiment.

Messages in the video include “End violence against girls,” “Quality education for all girls,” “End child marriage,” and “Equal pay for equal work.” All things we should already be fighting for, but why not do it with Spice Girls songs?

Both Sporty Spice (Melanie Chisholm) and Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham) have endorsed the video on social media:

Emma Watson is also a fan:

Here’s the message from The Global Goals that accompanied the video:

“In 2015 world leaders promised to put girls and women first when they signed up to the Sustainable Development Goals to end poverty, fix climate change and tackle inequalities.

Girls and women are disproportionately affected by these challenges and are key to building resilient communities to withstand them.

That’s why we need to ensure World Leaders and the Secretary General of the United Nations listen to the voices of girls and women and put them first in policies and plans.

2016 is our chance to use our collective power and tell world leaders what we really really want for girls and women.

If you make the noise, we’ll get your message to world leaders at the UN in September.

The Global Goals will only ever be achieved if governments, businesses, communities and YOU invest in girls and women.”
