In a new interview with Spectre director Sam Mendes, he reveals that the movie will tell the origin story of James Bond. He also says that it could be seen as a retro look at the character.

In the new interview with EW, James Bond director Sam Mendes talks about the new Bond film, and says, “Bond has been rebooted at the end of the movie. This is only the beginning of the story.”

He goes on to discuss the fact that the creation of the character hasn’t happened, so he took the story that direction. He says, “The Bond creation myth never happened. I felt there was an opportunity there: What made him? And who were the people who affected him along the way? You’re sort of telling the story backwards of how Bond became Bond.”

While it’ll be shiny and new, the director says, “A lot of the film is a celebration of what it is to be Bond, but it’s not retro. Hopefully it’s not just classic Bond but a classic thriller.”

“A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation,” the film’s synopsis reads. “While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.”

Spectre is currently in production, and while we’ve seen the film’s first trailer, we cannot wait to see what else the studio has for Bond fans as Spectre approaches its release date this November.

Don’t expect this to be the last Bond for Craig, as the actor is signed on to play the spy in at least one more Bond movie. We’ll be very interested to see who will replace the actor when the time comes. For now, we look forward to seeing Spectre.

Spectre’s release date has been officially set for November 6, 2015. The 24th Bond film will be released in IMAX.
