The hit Broadway musical, Spamalot will soon be making its way to the big screen!

According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures has officially secured the rights to Spamalot with the intent to adapt the Tony Award winning musical for the big screen.

A Spamalot film has been in the works for quite some time, with Fox initially holding the rights for the adaptation. Paramount in turn acquired the rights from the studio after the big Fox and Disney merger.

Though the project will no longer be going forward at Fox, it doesn’t sound like Paramount intends to experience any setbacks when it comes to progress that was made behind the scenes on the movie adaptation.

Eric Idle (who Monty Python fans will recognize for his contributions to the comedy group) had long since penned the screenplay for the big screen adaptation, which will still be used in Paramount’s movie.

The task of directing will fall to Casey Nicholaw, who is no stranger to Spamalot. Nicholaw served as the choreographer for the original Broadway production of the musical, which was based off of the 1975 classic comedy, Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see the musical adaptation hit the big screen, but given that development on the movie is pretty far along, we won’t be surprised if we get a tentative release date soon!
