The quirky sci-fi web series Space Janitors is light-speeding closer to its Kickstarter goal, making sure that season 3 is out of this world.

The intergalactic (and Canadian) web series Space Janitors recently announced that the show’s third season has been greenlit and has begun the pre-production process.

Space Janitors, which tells the story of 20-somethings working dead-end jobs on an evil space station, has already raised the majority of the funding necessary to make the third season. The show’s creators Davin Lengyel and Geoff Lapaire have launched a Kickstarter campaign to top off the budget and give Space Janitors fans an up-close-and-personal look at production on Space Janitors season 3. Fans of the show will be pleased to see that the campaign has raised nearly 75% of it’s goal, with almost 400 backers, in less than a week since it began.

It’s clear that the creative team of Space Janitors have no plans to rest on their laurels for the third season. Lengyel and Lapaire have teased the “hilarious and ambitious ideas” they have in store for the upcoming season, and have announced the return of fan-favorite LN6-K (known as “Elle,”) a female droid who made an early exit in season 2.

The show’s Kickstarter trailer makes it evident that excitement for Space Janitors season 3 is shared by the entire cast and crew.

A particularly innovative incentive being offered to backers of Space Janitors season 3 is the “Janitors Locker” perk. The Janitors Locker will provide fans with immediate access to episode downloads and new behind-the-scenes content.

In addition, “We’ll be updating the Locker weekly as we enter into season 3,” says Davin Lengyel. “We’ll have a collection of ongoing production podcasts, footage from the set, polls, contests, and even live-streams,” which will keep fans up to date on every aspect of production.

Space Janitors airs on the YouTube channel Geek & Sundry, which was founded by new media maven, Felicia Day. The series wrapped up its second season in late July. For a closer look into the minds of the creative team, check out Hypable’s interviews with the creators and cast of Space Janitors.
