New rumors point towards Sophie Turner and Saoirse Ronan as young Jean Grey in director Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

Back when a plot synopsis was released about Apocalypse, it said the main cast would be, “joined by a young Cyclops, Storm, Jean and others as the X-Men must fight their most formidable foe yet: an ancient unrelenting force determined to cause an apocalypse unlike any in human history.”

There were already signs that we would be seeing young versions of Scott, Storm, and Jean. But, now we know their characters will be getting recast with some of Hollywoods hottest up-and-comers.

The ever reliable Latino-Review reports that Sophie Turner and Saoirse Ronan are currently being screen-tested for the role of a young Jean Grey. Both actresses seem like solid picks for the role, which was previously played by Famke Janssen.

It was exciting to see Famke Janssen back as Jean Grey in the previous film, as she died in X-Men: The Last Stand after being revealed to be the most powerful mutant to ever grace the big screen.

We were hoping she would have a role in Apocalypse, but the storyline does seem to prevent Janssen from returning to the role, which should take place in the ’80s.

The rumors also state that Tye Sheridan is in contention for the role of young Cyclops. Sheridan is best known for his incredible role alongside Matthew Mcconaughey in Mud. He’s a solid actor, and we imagine these rumors are probably true on some level. We’ll definitely keep an eye on who plans to replace these beloved characters.

It will be a momentous task replacing actors who have played these characters for nearly 20 years now, but we have some faith as the studio did a great job casting Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult in their respective roles.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be directed by Bryan Singer, with Simon Kinberg penning the script, and will be released in theaters May 27, 2016.
