The next PlayStation will probably be the last next-generation console to be revealed, at least according to Sony France CEO Philippe Cardon. The executive also suggested a Monster Hunter title may be coming to the PlayStation Vita in the near future.

“The Wii is under time pressure because it’s in decline,” said Cardon in an interview translated by Eurogamer. “As far as we’re concerned, we’re under a lot less pressure. We were the last to release the PS3. We will probably be the last to announce something.”

Sony has already denied rumors that the PlayStation 4 will be introduced at this year’s E3 in June.

Nintendo’s Wii U is expected to launch by the end of 2012 and there is much speculation that Microsoft will unveil the next Xbox at E3 and will release it in 2013.

Cardon also suggested a title in the popular Monster Hunter series may be coming to Sony’s newest handheld soon.

Commenting on the struggling sales performance of the system in Japan, Cardon said, “The sales that followed [the initial pre-] orders might seem disappointing, but they’re not. We must put things in perspective and stay calm. The games available at the Japanese launch didn’t match the tastes of the Japanese public.

“One game in particular is missing – Monster Hunter, due in a few months’ time. If it had been there from the start in Japan, it would have been a different story. The appropriateness of the games to the console at the European launch will be better than it was in Japan.”

While this could be a mistranslation, it would certainly make sense that Sony would want a game in the popular series to help sell their system.

The Vita will release in the U.S. and Europe February 22.
