After MCV published reports about the PlayStation 4 being introduced at E3 2012, rumors and speculation began circulating to the contrary. One of Sony’s top executives has killed the story that the next PlayStation will be shown in June.

Reported by the Wall Street Journal during a “roundtable” session, Sony will not be unveiling a new console.

Answering a question about the PlayStation 4 being shown at this year’s E3, Sony’s Kaz Hirai had this to say:

Andy (House) is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3. I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that.

Microsoft has not yet commented on speculation that the next Xbox will be shown at the show.

Nintendo has already announced the Wii U will be a part of their presentation at this year’s event.

Are you disappointed Sony will not have a new PlayStation to show at E3 or are you just looking forward to other reveals?
