Get ready to run! Paramount has nabbed the rights to Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends, and a new movie is officially in development.

Interestingly, Deadpool director Tim Miller will executive produce the new Sonic movie (which was previously in the works at Sony before they let the rights go). The video game-turned-film will be directed by Miller’s creative partner Jeff Fowler. It’ll be his directorial feature debut.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Sonic movie “will blend live action and CGI animation” (think Space Jam). A synopsis from Sony — back when they had the rights — said the film “will look to capture Sonic’’s irreverent tone and spirit, reuniting him with some of the most revered and infamous characters of the franchise, including the evil Dr. Eggman. Playful, mischievous, and quick on his feet in more ways than one, the world’’s fastest hedgehog is known for his ability to move at supersonic speed to protect his friends from their enemies.”

SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is still going strong. The franchise celebrated its 25th anniversary last year and the iconic blue animal is still pumping out games. He has two this year: Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces. The former was released earlier this year for PC, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and Xbox One to rave reviews.

Speaking of video games turned movies: We recently learned that a live-action Pokemon movie was in the works, capitalizing on Pokemon GO’s runaway success.
