Sonic the Hedgehog fans will have to wait for a little bit longer to get to see the Blue Blur on the silver screen as his CGI model is reworked.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer that released last month left a lot of fans scratching their heads, trying to figure out how this character model resembled the Sonic that they know and love from the hit video game series.

His legs were too long, his teeth were too human looking, and the fur texture on his body didn’t look natural.

Thankfully, it seems as though fans’ complaints about the Sonic movie’s character design have been taken to heart, as director Jeff Fowler posted the following tweet announcing the film’s delay.

That long hashtag at the end of Fowler’s tweet reads “No VFX artists were harmed in the making of this movie,” likely referencing how the delay would affect the lives and workflow of the team behind bringing Sonic to the big screen.

As the film will now be released on February 14, 2020, the VFX team should have just enough time to rework Sonic’s look. But even then, that feels like a bit of a time crunch.

It’s possible that the Sonic movie creators purposefully leaked these Sonic movie renders earlier this year, in the hopes that they would get enough feedback in time to remake the blue hedgehog’s look before it was too far along in the film’s production to do so.

Sonic the Hedgehog stars Jim Carrey as baddie Dr. Robotnik, James Marsden as Sonic’s cop friend, and the voice talent of Ben Schwartz as Sonic. The film’s original release date was November 8, 2019, but has now been pushed all the way up to February of next year.
