The Sonic movie’s lead character design has been leaked, and not even series creator Yuji Naka has anything nice to say about.

If you haven’t seen the Sonic movie character design leak yet, be forewarned: it’s absolutely abhorrent.

This is your last opportunity to back out before you suffer a miserable fate.

Final call.

You ready?

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Yeah. I know.

Creator Naka spoke of the differences from his original character design for Sonic, and hasn’t really had a lot of nice things to say about it. The following tweet translates to, “Is this a Sonic movie?” Yep, he used a meme to call out how horrible Sonic’s redesign is.

In one of his latest tweets about the Sonic character redesign, Naka spoke of how he believes “that it is strategically leaked.” Meaning, he is with us when we all hope that they fix this. “It is shocking that bare hands are white,” he says.

One particularly bad part of Sonic’s design is his proportions. His shoulders are oddly shaped, his torso too extended, and those creepy furry eyebrows have taken on a life of their own. And what’s up with the gloveless hands? They’re supposed to be a well-known characteristic of Sonic, so why take them off? Lastly, the legs. They look too human, and the gross fur texture covering his whole body looks even uglier on them.

Beyond all questionable design choices, the Sonic movie will be released November 9, 2019. To create a new design for Sonic after such an uproar from even the creator of the character’s original design would be quite the feat. While it’s highly unlikely, one can hope.
