The battle of stage vs. street continues tonight as the best of both worlds try for their spot on season 12.

Season 12 is a dance battle like we’ve never seen before. Unlike previous seasons, So You Think You Can Dance season 12 pits the professionally-trained stage dancers, from genres like ballet and ballroom and contemporary, against the oft-untrained street dancers, like krumpers, poppers, and animators. After making it through to Vegas, they will be sorted into Team Stage and Team Street, which will be mentored by SYTYCD alumni Travis Wall and Twitch, respectively.

Gettin Jit-ty Wit It

We’ve seen a lot of promising dancers for both teams in the premiere, and tonight’s auditions in Detroit will likely be no different. Detroit has provided a lot of promising dancers over the years, including season 10 champ Amy Yakima. Judge Nigel Lythgoe tweeted that the Detroit jit, a street style which apparently reminds him of the Charleston, will be featured on tonight’s show.

We’ll also get a look at some very adorable, very young talent, from a little fella named Bam Bam:

Get Inspired

As long-time viewers of the show know, So You Think You Can Dance is about a lot more than just dance. We get to know and love these contestants, and the way dance has helped them through the struggles in their lives proves just how important it is.
