We just wanted to quickly recap the various ways that Warner Brothers attempted to get the word out about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 to Oscar voters. They’re likely looking back on the campaign and wondering what, if anything, went wrong.

Hypable actively covered the various ‘For Your Consideration’ pushes across all forms of media.

First up was the minisite, which nearly every film gets from its studio. The site lists the cast and crew, offers soundtrack samples, and allows you to browse nice stills from the film.

Next came a promotional booklet which was distributed with issues of The Hollywood Reporter. Hypable obtained one and share the pages within which included gorgeous shots from the movie and select quotes from film critics.

Then came billboards scattered throughout Los Angeles with the same promotional photos seen on the website and in the booklet. You couldn’t drive on any street in Hollywood without seeing one of these signs in front of you.

Lastly various cast and crew held speaking engagements and luncheons to woo potential voters. We were present at a screening and Q&A with David Yates, David Heyman, David Barron, and Helena Bonham Carter.

In the end, Oscar voters weren’t moved by the For Your Consideration campaign and only nominated Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in three categories and won none of them.

If Warner Brothers learns any lesson it may simply be that even a strong promotional campaign won’t help change Oscar voters’ minds for even simple nominations. And hey, at least they tried!

Could the studio have done anything else to get more nominations or even just one win?
