In its final episode of 2018, Matt Damon hosted SNL with musical guests Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus. Check out the holiday themed highlights from this week’s episode.

It’s A Wonderful Trump Cold Open

In the final cold open of 2018, Alec Baldwin returned as Donald Trump to spoof the classic Christmas movie It’s A Wonderful Life. In this parody, Donald Trump’s world is completely turned upside down from what we know of him in reality. The cold open features cameos by Ben Stiller playing Michael Cohen, Robert DeNiro as Robert Mueller and host Matt Damon as Brett Kavanaugh.

Oscar Host Search

Following the dramatic controversy surrounding Kevin Hart’s departure as the host of the 2019 Oscars, SNL showcased some of the best impressionists on the show auditioning to host the Oscars. In this sketch you can find Matt Damon as Chris Hemsworth, Keenan as Michael Strahan, Aidy Bryant as Roseanne and Heidi Gardner as Allison Janney among others.

Christmas Ornaments

In another sketch, several cast members play Christmas tree ornaments that get banished to the back of the tree. Stick around for Mikey Day playing a weird looking Harry Potter!

Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus Perform

This week Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus joined forces as the musical guests. They were joined in the second performance by Sean Ono Lennon, son of Beatle John Lennon. The trio performed a cover of “Happy XMas (War Is Over),” an original by John Lennon.

Breaking from tradition, cast member Pete Davidson introduced the second performance of the night, rather than host Matt Damon. Just hours before the show went live, Davidson made a cryptic Instagram post that alluded to potential suicidal tendencies before deleting his account. Having Davidson intro the second performance was likely a nod from the show recognizing that Davidson was fine. There were reports that NYPD checked on Davidson following his Instagram post and confirmed he was safe.

Coming Up On SNL

This marked the last episode of the year for SNL. The show will return early next year. As of now, no new hosts or musical guests have been announced.
