Last night Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon hosted SNL along with musical guest Florence and the Machine. Check out the highlights from the Mother’s Day themed episode!

Last night’s cold open featured a satire on the Republican presidential nominees pandering to be “cool” to a younger audience at a convention and MC’ed by Cecily Strong.

In Reese Witherspoon’s opening monologue she let each cast member bring their mom on stage and apologize for things that had happened in the past. After each cast member had their moment with their mother, Reese’s mom came on stage and introduced a segment of home videos from each of the cast members – which was not only unique but absolutely hilarious. Check out the opening monologue below!

In the first sketch of the show, Reese Witherspoon and Cecily Strong played talk show hosts who had no idea what they were doing. Keenan Thompson and Jay Pharoah steal the show as sound engineers who don’t know how to do their job.

That really awkward performing group made its way on to last night’s episode of SNL, and featured Reese Witherspoon complete with multi colored hair extensions. This sketch has been hit or miss in the past but last night’s was somewhere in the middle. We wanted to laugh but the awkward joke at the end regarding race made everyone uncomfortable.

In one of our personal favorite recurring sketches, Kate McKinnon brought back her awkward and adorable sketch featuring lots of live kittens. Don’t let the kittens fool you: the banter between McKinnon and Reese Witherspoon is some of the best dialogue of the night!

Reese Witherspoon also joined Cecily Strong at the Weekend Update desk as another girl you wish you hadn’t started a conversation with at a party. This recurring sketch from Cecily Strong was hilarious with Witherspoon, who may have channeled some part of her inner Elle Woods for this bit!

Florence and the Machine returned to SNL with two powerful performances as well. Check them out below.

Next week, Louis C.K. will host a big season finale with musical guest Rihanna in what will surely be a fantastic episode.

What were your thoughts about last night’s penultimate episode of ‘SNL’?
