Last night alum Andy Samberg hosted the season finale of SNL with musical guest St. Vincent. And per usual, the season finale was chalk full of surprises and guests!

The cold open for the season finale touched on the recent Jay-Z, Beyonce and Solange controversy. And it included a huge surprise as Maya Rudolph joined in on the sketch reprising her hilarious impression of Beyonce:

Samberg’s cold open included a return for Seth Meyers who helped Andy break Bill Hader’s previous impressions record. But by the time he was done, the former SNL star himself, Bill Hader, returned to then break Andy’s record. Here’s how it all went down:

As expected, Samberg returned to his roots with some hilarious SNL Digital Shorts. The first one of the night spoofed DJs who don’t require a lot of talent getting paid tons of money with legions of fans:

On Weekend Update, Samberg brought back his impression of Nicholas Cage but this time he was joined by Paul Rudd:

In what was probably the sketch of the night, the Vogelchecks returned with their usual touchy-feely inappropriateness which included the return of SNL alumni Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Fred Armisen and Bill Hader. Paul Rudd was also featured in the sketch.

In another Digital Short, The Lonely Island returned with a music video for their song “Hugs” featuring Pharrell Williams.

And in what was one of the weirder episodes of the night, 2 Chainz stopped by to support his new protege played by Andy Samberg. The record producers aren’t convinced that he’s any good, but 2 Chainz thinks he’s the next best thing:

St. Vincent also performed 2 songs. Check out the full performance of “Digital Witness” below:

SNL will return for its record 40th season later this year. There’s no word on any cast members leaving the show unlike recent years which have seen some of its biggest names leave causing a considerate cast reboot at the beginning of the season. SNL went under fire when this season began with fans and skeptics noting there were no black female cast members. After its winter hiatus, SNL returned in 2014 casting newcomer Sasheer Zamata.
