SNL announced today that head writer Colin Jost will be co-anchoring the Weekend Update desk with current cast member Cecily Strong.

THR is reporting that Colin Jost, head writer for Saturday Night Live (not a performing cast member…yet) will join Cecily Strong and replace Seth Meyers on the March 1 episode of the late night comedy show.

As most know, Meyers will be departing Saturday Night Live to take over the Late Night hosting position on NBC. Jimmy Fallon will be moving to The Tonight Show, taking over for Jay Leno after his departure.

Jost has been a writer for Saturday Night Live since 2005 and became the head writer in 2012. He’s a Peabody Award winner and has been nominated for 7 Emmys for his work on SNL. He also joins a long list of exceptional talent who have taken over the Weekend Update desk including Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon and Amy Poehler, just to name a few.

Late Night With Seth Meyers premieres February 24. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will premiere a week earlier on February 17 at midnight following the Winter Olympics. Actor Will Smith and rock band U2 will be Fallon’s first guests on The Tonight Show.

Are you excited to see all these transitions take place in the late-night comedy space?
