As promised, Pottermore launched the first of twelve new releases this morning that are timed for the holidays.

This morning’s new writing from Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is the first piece to be released from Pottermore’s Half-Blood Prince section. Specifically, it is related to chapter two in the sixth Potter novel.

In a three paragraph piece, Rowling writes about Cokeworth, the town where Lily, Snape, and Petunia lived in and where the Dursleys ran to escape letters from Hogwarts.

“Perhaps Uncle Vernon has a vague idea that Cokeworth is so distinctly unmagical, the letters will not follow them there. He ought to have known better; after all Petunia’s sister, Lily, turned into a talented witch in Cokeworth.”

Rowling goes on to note that this is the same town where Bellatrix and Narcissia visited at the beginning of Half-Blood Prince (hence why this new writing appears in this area of Pottermore).

The new writing is not all that enlightening or exciting, but it’s just the start of a slew of new releases on Pottermore. Over the next week and a half we will be receiving new writing about Draco Malfoy and Florean Fortescue’s ghost plot, Pottermore says. There will also be a couple of new potions – so the next time you read an article telling you the Potter author is releasing new short stories, remember that the media is lying to you.
