Snapchat is helping you take your party (or any event) to the next level by letting you make your own geofilters.

Imagine inviting guests to a birthday party and allowing people to add a geofilter to their Snaps, depicting the birthday person’s name (“Andrew’s 27th”) with a drawing of something they love (In-N-Out Animal Style fries, Dominos Handmade Pan Pizza, etc.). Cool idea, right?

Snapchat’s new On-Demand Geofilters feature makes that idea possible. Users can now upload their own artwork and set a length of time and location for where their custom geofilter will appear.

This new feature isn’t free, but it’s pretty cheap. We did a test in which we submitted a filter that would run from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. and set the location for this writer’s apartment complex. The cost of having it running for a single evening comes it an affordable $5.77.

The price of a custom filter grows exponentially when you expand the coverage area and length of time it’s running. In other words, for the average user it’s only affordable if you’re doing it for a small event.

Not only is that price fair, it’ll more than pay for itself when your event’s guests are surprised and delighted by its availability!

This new promotional video from Snapchat shows the feature in action:

Snapchat has also imposed a few rules for the custom filters: You can’t use logos or trademarks you’re not authorized to use, you can’t use real photographs of people, and you can’t show any drug-related content (so special filters for your next rave will have to wait).

Until now, Snapchat’s geofilters have usually displayed artwork for towns, national or worldwide events, and advertisers. Some advertisers have even made deals with Snapchat in which geofilters will appear in specific brick and mortar businesses (like Taco Bell and Dunkin’ Donuts).

On-Demand Geofilters are available now. Get designing!
