Even though NBC’s Smash is still four weeks away, you can get a sneak preview right now of Jennifer Hudson performing the original song “I Can’t Let Go” from episode 2×04!

In this video from EW.com, Hudson performs in front of a full stadium theatre, while Karen (Katherine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty) sing backup.

The song reportedly takes place during the climax of episode 4, with Karen and Ivy making amends to work together to sing backup at Veronica’s (Hudson) concert.

Also notable is the appearances of Tom (Tony award winner Christian Borle) playing the piano, and Hit List writers Jimmy (Jeremy Jordan) and Kyle (Andy Mientus) watching on the sidelines with a very pleased looking Derek (Jack Davenport). Veronica’s mother, whom it was revealed Sheryl Lee Ralph is to play, watches her daughter in the audience with a slight amusement in her eye.

Hudson will play a four episode arc on Smash and will act as a mentor to Karen.

What do you think of Hudson’s performance? Do you think she has what it takes to prove her talent amongst the rest of the shows’ performers?
