The Smash Ultimate demo is making a victory lap back into Best Buy stores, and may be already loaded on Switch kiosks.
In a tweet to a Smash fan, Best Buy confirmed, then unconfirmed, that the Smash Ultimate demo was going to be playable again at Best Buy stores.
The cat is out of the bag.

It was odd to respond to the same tweet with another response that tried to negate the first, wasn’t it?
There has been no confirmation that this particular demo will be available in store.

There are two important factors that make this demo significant. The first is that the Smash Ultimate demo was previously playable at Best Buy, but only after you waited in line in an event-like fashion. If the game was playable in a more open format, a lot more labwork could be done with the upcoming Nintendo brawler’s character roster.
The second reason that this is potentially so significant is that the full roster was recently playable for the first time at a Smash Ultimate event in Spain. Seeing as that build of the demo has already been played by the public, it’s likely that the Best Buy Smash Ultimate demo will be the same. It wouldn’t quite make sense for Nintendo to backtrack and bring back the old demo, now would it?
Before the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS release in 2014, special demo codes were sent out to Nintendo fans that had signed up for a Club Nintendo reward. There has not yet been talk about a Smash Ultimate demo being made available for gamers at home, and likely because of the datamining that happened pretty soon after the 3DS demo was released.
Sora Sakurai, the series creator, took to Twitter to firsthand thank players for their passion, but to also ask them to calm it down a bit when it comes to character requests.

Sakurai then went on to state that all of the upcoming five DLC characters have already been finalized, and that Nintendo had their say on who got in the game this time around.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC line-up is now complete. This time the selection was made entirely by Nintendo. I decide if we can create a fighter based on their selection, then come up with the plan.
