Bernadette Peters makes a splash as Ivy Lynn’s mom in Smash 2×09 “The Parents.” Find out how Ivy reacts to her mother’s casting in Bombshell, and check out a couple previews from Hit List below.

In the first clip from tonight’s episode, Ivy finds out her mom, Leigh Conroy (Peters), has been cast as Marilyn’s mother, Gladys. Peer pressure, forced smiles and many unenthusiastic “yays” ensue.

Reminiscent of her Hit List characters stealing Jimmy’s songs, Karen performs her take on “Broadway Here I Come” in the second clip. Jeremy Jordan sang the same song in the season premiere, but Kat McPhee puts it in the context of the show.

While we’re comparing, Krysta Rodriguez sang “Broadway Here I Come” at a benefit in 2011. Who sang it best?

In the third and final clip from tonight’s episode, Ana gets her turn in the spotlight as the Diva in Hit List. Though Rodriguez hasn’t had many scenes this season, the Smash writers seem to make up for it with this Cirque du Soleil-type performance.

“The Parents” episode synopsis:

After Leigh Conroy (guest star Bernadette Peters) joins the cast of “Bombshell,” Tom (Christian Borle) finds himself struggling to diffuse the years of tension between her and Ivy (Megan Hilty). Derek (Jack Davenport) learns more about Jimmy’s past just as the public sees their first piece of “Hit List.” Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston, Leslie Odom, Jr. and Andy Mientus also star. Jesse L. Martin and Bernadette Peters guest star.
