Yet another Broadway star has joined the upcoming second season of NBC’s musical dramedy Smash: Rent’s Daphne Rubin-Vega!

The news was uncovered today by Entertainment Weekly who added that Rubin-Vega will play a Broadway publicist. She had the original role of Mimi Marquez in Rent.

In recent weeks we’ve seen several Smash season two casting announcements including Bernadette Peters, Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray), Jesse L. Martin (Rent), Daniel Sunjata (Grey’s Anatomy) and Sean Hayes (Will & Grace).

Smash season two does not have a firm premiere date but is expected in early 2013. The show is undergoing some major changes for its sophomore season including more “consistent” story lines and an entirely new musical to compete with “Bombshell.” Perhaps the biggest change will be the reduction of four season one characters. Jaime Cepero (Elis), Raza Jaffrey (Dev), Brian D’Arcy James (Frank), Will Chase (Michael Swift) will all have significantly smaller roles.
