Smash has cast its President John F. Kennedy for the TV show’s fictional Marilyn Monroe musical Bombshell.

TVline reports that British actor Juilian Overden will play the late 35th President of the United States in NBC’s musical-drama Smash. We can assume he’ll be in the important “Happy Birthday Mr. President” scene that was notably absent from the Boston preview of Bombshell in season 1.

Overden is known for his roles in ABC’s Cashmere Mafia as Eric Burden, and with another Smash season 2 guest star Jesse L. Martin in the Hallmark Channel’s Emmy winning A Christmas Carol: The Musical.

According to Overden’s official website, the actor is also a tenor singer, and has an album out, titled “If You Stay.”

Released in April, IF YOU STAY is a beautiful collection of songs that takes the listener back to the golden era of 1960’s London. There are epic, sweeping romantic tracks such as It Hurts To Say Goodbye, as well as heartbreakingly intimate songs: If You Go Away and When She Loved Me, which both feature just Julian at the piano.

It’s a relief to hear that Overden already has a lot of musical talent and experience. He most certaintly won’t be the first singing Brit on the show, what with Karen’s (Katherine McPhee) ex-boyfriend Dev (Raza Jaffery).

What do you think about this casting? Will he be able to fill the shoes of Marilyn’s favorite President? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
