Last week Sleepy Hollow returned for its 2015 run and we were introduced to a new angel, but not the kind we were expecting. Now the question is where will they go next?

Caution: Small spoilers ahead. With ratings falling slowly Sleepy Hollow fans are needing to be awed and amazed more than ever, and the introduction of Orion, the angel who broke rank, could have been the thing to do just that. Or, at least, it was until he turned against Ichabod and Abbie.

We met Orion when Ichabod and Abbie were in a fight with some low-level demons, where Orion used his halo to help kill one of them. He then introduced himself as a fellow prisoner of Purgatory who was on a mission to destroy any evil that escaped. It was all good until we realized he was a zealot, wanting to destroy all evil in Sleepy Hollow by just destroying the entire town and anyone who has anything to do with it.

Granted, Orion did have black wings which made us question whether or not he was good from the moment he stepped into the barn, but now that it’s confirmed he’s definitely not on our side Sleepy Hollow has to pull something amazing to keep us interested. We’ve met so many villains and demons that now any presence of good would be a welcome change, and we hope it’s something that happens before this season ends.

So what next?

The introduction of angels is definitely something we’re excited about because of the implications they bring. If Orion is an angel that broke rank that means that there must still be angels who haven’t, meaning that there are still good angels somewhere in this universe. Having good angels then implies that there’s definitely a God or Greater Being of some sort, which also implies that the opposite should be true: There should be a devil.

We know that they can’t just bring God and the Devil into the game so soon (after all, it took Supernatural four seasons until we met an angel) but Orion’s introduction means so much that it makes us extremely hopeful for what they have planned. If you’ve ever thought about it too much, like we have, you’ve probably asked yourself “Where are the good angels? Why is Hell/Purgatory active and bustling while the good side/Heaven/whatever Sleepy Hollow wants to call it is seemingly asleep and not in on the action?”

These questions need to be answered before the season ends, and hopefully in time for current fans to keep watching. The trouble with Sleepy Hollow is that it’s so familiar to shows like Supernatural and Charmed that it’s almost like we’ve seen this type of story play out several times before, so Ichabod and Abbie really need to start doing something other than daily demon fighting that will get our interests peaked again.

We sincerely love this show, and we’re excited and hopeful for it to get a third season, but the stakes need to change and we need more interesting dynamics to to keep us watching every week.
