It seems that Sleepy Hollow lost its head. Showrunner Mark Goffman has stepped down from his position on the show, despite season 3 not being renewed or cancelled.

When season two of Sleepy Hollow ended we knew that a third season would mean a fresh start, but we had no idea exactly how fresh! Now we know that the series, if renewed, will likely be a completely different beast. Fox is already on the hunt for a new showrunner since Goffman’s departure, but we wonder if it’s a hunt that will be worth it seeing as they haven’t even decided to renew the show just yet.

This comes as troubling news for fans of Sleepy Hollow, since many are still waiting and hoping to hear if the show will be renewed for a third season. Low ratings have all but killed the sophomore season, dropping Sleepy Hollow viewership down 40% from season one and getting beaten on a weekly basis by its freshman predecessor, Gotham.

If Sleepy Hollow is going to return it all depends on if Fox can find a showrunner who’s willing to work with it. We can’t imagine that many would turn down the opportunity to take the helm, seeing as the show has been wildly successful in it’s freshman year and fans are still just as passionate about the show since day one.

A new showrunner might make season 3 better than what Goffman had in mind, and we all know that fans weren’t happy with his decisions regarding Ichabod and Katrina. If the show does manage to find a replacement then we can safely assume that season 3 will be green lit, but if not it looks like we’ll have to say goodbye to Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills.
