Sleepy Hollow season 2 has been greenlit by Fox, the network announced today.

Notably, this is the first new television show of the Fall 2013 season to be renewed by any network. Season 2 will have thirteen episodes just like season 1.

Said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company about Sleepy Hollow‘s renewal, “The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking – it’s a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast. I can’t wait for fans to experience what else is in store for this fall and even more of this wild ride into Season Two.”

Sleepy Hollow has been a ratings success for the network during its first two weeks on television. The premiere episode had 13.6 million viewers in a three-day period, making it the most successful new show since 24 in November 2001. With digital viewership, OnDemand, and DVR included, Sleepy Hollow‘s premiere episode audience jumped to an incredible 22 million viewers.

On Sleepy Hollow season 1, episode 3 airing this Monday, October 7, “Lt. Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) and Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) search for Abbie’s estranged sister, Jenny (guest star Lyndie Greenwood), who has escaped from a Sleepy Hollow psychiatric hospital. In a game-changing episode, which includes flashbacks to the real Boston Tea Party, Abbie and Ichabod discover more about the evil they are facing,” according to the official synopsis.
