Sleepy Hollow season 1, episode 9 “Sanctuary” just aired, and holy cow! Check out our recaps of the latest episode brought to you with a tiny bit of sass.

“We’re in a damn haunted house.”
-The episode begins with a random girl driving up to one of the oldest homes in the area, one that’s apparently part of her family.
-She and her bodyguard go into the house to see what’s up.
-Then the rich chick gets abducted by vines in the closet.
-In this week’s Skeptical Ichabod, he doesn’t approve of how quick drive-thrus are. Aw, poor guy can’t get a break.
-He’s also making fun of modern Thanksgiving. They had venison, not turkey back then!
-All the holidays make Ichabod lonely for Katrina and family. Aw, boo, join the club.
-The woman who got abducted, Lena, is a billionaire, and Ichabod simply cannot fathom that one person has that much money.
-Katrina’s name is signed on a piece of paper on the Lena’s desk. Iiinteresting.
-Lena’s family owned half the east coast at the time, and Ichabod was familiar with her ancestors. He knows where his house is! Woo!
-Flashback to Katrina and Ichabod visiting the residence during the war.
-The estate was a safe-haven for slaves, and anyone working there did so by choice. It was a sanctuary.
-They discover the body guard dead on a chair. Looks like an animal attack.
-When Abbie tries to leave all the doors slam in her face. The house is keeping her in! OHSHITE.

American Horror Story: Sleepy Hollow
-Abbie sees a ghost of a woman walk by. Girl, don’t you know this is how horror movies start?!
-Ichabod found a letter he wrote to Katrina on the day he faced the Horseman.
-Aaaand there’s a creepy-as-Hell laugh echoing through the house. And birds. This isn’t supposed to be American Horror Story, guys!
-In the flashback, the house was charming, warm and intelligent. Ichabod has a theory that the house was also a sanctuary from supernatural evils.
-They find Lena in a closet, and Ichabod tries to cut her free but the branch bleeds.
-A walking tree creature then gets up from the frigin’ front yard and goes towards the house.
-The house is aliiiive!

Witches EVERYWHERE.
-Abbie and Ichabod manage to get Lena out, yay!
-Jenny is visiting Captain Irving, and she returns a gun she stole. Sassy, girl!
-Jenny wants to have people over to thank Abbie for taking her in, and she’s inviting the Captain. Hmm, this can’t go well.
-Captain Irving’s daughter and ex-wife come visit. RUE!
-Katrina Crane was the last person to use the house as a sanctuary according the records Lena found. She came back to try to find out what happened to her great great granddad.
-If Lena’s ancestor was a witch using the house to protect people from the supernatural then maybe he was part of Katrina’s coven!
-The giant tree thing is following them and so they go into a hidden door inside the walls
-Ichabod tries to get Abbie to give him her hand to help her out of the wall, and it’s the frigin’ tree monster.

BABY!
-A bunch of birds attack Ichabod and Lena and suddenly Lena is gone. What, is this Birds now?!
-Abbie then sees the ghost of the woman who took care of the house back when Katrina visited
-Macy, Captain’s daughter, is adorable. She talks with Jenny about how it sucks growing up with her dad. She likes it more with her mom.
-Jenny tells her to give her dad a chance. Aw. Heartwarming moment in the middle of a night full of fear. Thanks, Sleepy Hollow.
-Captain Irving’s wife is not liking how much work he’s doing. It was supposed to be easier for him and his daughter so he can spend more time with her, but things are not going as planned.
-The scene implies that an accident happened to Macy and she wasn’t born a paraplegic.
-Irving’s wife claims that she will file for full custody of Macy if he doesn’t become a better father.
-Meanwhile, in Freakville, the ghost shows a flashback of a woman giving birth. Katrina! WAT.
-Katrina gave birth to a boy after Ichabod died. DAT BABY THO.

With birth, came death.
-Abbie meets up with Ichabod and she tells him about the vision.
-In a flashback they show Katrina coming to the house. Abbie figures the protective hex around it was why Katrina came to the house.
-After Katrina gave birth a bunch of ravens started attacking the window, the tree creature arrived as soon as the baby was born.
-In the middle of the recounting, they hear a scream coming from the basement. Of course it’s the basement.
-And in that moment they see Lena being swiped up by the tree creature.

Ichabod’s an angry daddy.
-Ichabod and Abbie realize that if they shoot the roots the tree thing feels it. Keep shooting!
-Abbie sees a vision of the woman and Katrina hiding behind a wall. She follows.
-Just when they get to the car Ichabod gets an axe and goes back into the house. WHY!? Well because the monster came after his son. But really, though, WHY?!
-Ichabod starts cutting away at the roots and monster screaming about how he can’t just come after his wife and child. There’s tree blood EVERYWHERE.
-Ichaod then gets into the car all bloodied and gore-ridden. Blech. But it looks like Katrina and Ichabod’s son got out of there in time!
-Abbie brings a bunch of things in for Ichabod for Thanksgiving. Heartwarming moment between the two. aww.
-Lena sends Abbie all her files for research. A family tree points out that Abbie’s ancestor brought Katrina’s child into the world. D’aw!
