Sleepy Hollow season 3, episode 14, “Into the Wild,” brought several of the main characters together for a common, yet separate goal, and everything is finally starting to come together.

As Sleepy Hollow nears the end of its third season I’ve still got a ton of questions about where the plot is going to end. Will the entire story revolving around The Hidden One be tied up in one nice, neat little knot? Or will Pandora and The Hidden One stick around for next season?

This episode has me thinking that regardless of the show’s future (it still hasn’t been renewed for a fourth season), the story will probably end in an unsatisfying manner for the two Witnesses, but round out Pandora’s arc and her boyfriend’s mission to destroy Ichabod and Abbie.

We saw Abbie and Sophie embark on their own mission with an FBI training retreat. It was really fantastic being able to see them bond over the supernatural, since Sophie was technically Abbie’s replacement while she was gone and trapped in the Catacombs. Sophie brings a balance to Abbie’s personality that she desperately needed — while Abbie has always seen the negative aspects of the supernatural world invading her life, Sophie holds out hope that the existence of the supernatural will help her find her parents.

Before this episode, Sophie’s character needed more depth, in my opinion. But now we’ve got someone worth exploring! What happened to her parents that made them disappear, and why can’t anyone explain it? Surely this has got something to do with the supernatural world otherwise the reveal would mean nothing. But could you imagine the despair if she realizes that after all these years, despite the supernatural being real, that her parents really did just fall of the face of the Earth and it wasn’t a supernatural explanation? I’d love to see that happen, only because I wonder if her motivation for fighting supernatural things will change if that’s the case. If her true end game is to find her parents, will she continue to help Ichabod and Abbie after she solves that mystery?

Abbie and Sophie’s bonding day proved fruitful for both as they gained a newfound respect for each other, and they also managed to defeat a demon while they were at it! This demon of the week was particularly disturbing — made of worms that can infect those scratched or bitten. Out in the wild, the pair had no conventional weapons to defeat the thing, but luckily modern medicine came to save the day as they used an antibiotic to destroy it.

And Ichabod was a huge part of the defeat of this week’s monster. Despite not knowing where Abbie was located, he discovered that the metallic rune Abbie found was actually a potential beacon of hope. It showed him where Abbie was in her desperate time of need, and that’s all they needed to realize that it’s not just a representation of evil. Abbie is not possessed or being controlled by some evil being, and they may be able to use this new tool to help them in their attempt to save the world.

It’s so great to see Abbie take in a breath after realizing that the thing she’s been fighting doesn’t actually have to be fought. I’m still convinced that this rune has something to do with Abbie’s family history, particularly with her dad, and I’m excited to see where this good news leads them and what they discover because of it.

One of my favorite bits of the entire episode saw Jenny and Joe having their first official two-on-one fight with Pandora, and this was also a particularly deep story. They had to bid for a part of Pandora’s box that had come up for auction, and we discovered that Joe still had the wendigo DNA inside him when he touched the box. They managed to escape Pandora with the box remnant, but Joe was scarred. He thought this was all a part of his past, and now he’s worried that he’s too dangerous to be around Jenny, but Jenny stayed resilient in their love for each other.

Seeing Jenny and Joe’s relationship grow this much actually kind of frightens me, guys. It’s so happy and beautiful, in a world that’s so dangerous, that I can’t help but think it’s going to end badly for one of them. It’s not that I want either of them to die (for once, I don’t want a character to die), I’m just extremely worried that the writers won’t let Jenny have this moment for too long. It’s too perfect! Unless, of course, the season ends and they’re still together and the show doesn’t get a fourth season. Then I can be blissfully unaware of whatever horrible future awaits them.

Last but not least, the confusion just keeps getting worse with The Hidden One. At the end of the episode he’s more pissed at Pandora than ever, since she let Jenny and Joe get away with the bits of the box. Instead of giving her back her power, he said that it’s about time he did what he should’ve done from the beginning.

Alright, but like… my question is if he really wants to destroy the Witnesses, why didn’t he do that the moment he got all his power? And if that wasn’t his plan with the hourglass, then what was?! It’s truly confusing when you try to figure out what The Hidden One’s game plan is — especially when he just disappears at the end of the episode.

I’m going to place my bets and say that Pandora is going to team up with Ichabod and Abbie to destroy him, especially since he’s now denied her of her powers countless times and refused to help — he even calls her wanting her powers back selfish, when he’s the one who’s being selfish. This relationship isn’t going to last, and it’s only a matter of time until The Hidden One gets the boot.
