The latest episode of Sleepy Hollow has really made me fall in love with the show all over again, and it’s because we’re finally getting the answers we need.

One of the things that confused me about Sleepy Hollow lately is that with Pandora’s character not being modeled after Greek mythology, I was always curious about how and why she exists in this world. Tonight we got that answer, and it was so great to see her story come full circle.

As it turns out The Hidden One was a God that was banished to those very same catacombs that Abbie was sent to, hidden from the rest of the world and the other Gods. Now his name finally makes sense! And as an act of retaliation against his brother who sent him there, he’s been collecting all the evils of the world in a box. Yes, that box.

Pandora was a servant who would give the Gods offerings for her people, and when she offered The Hidden One an offering he gave her the box so that she can use it to destroy his brother and he can take his rightful place, not hidden from everyone.

Pandora did open it and manage to destroy the other God, but somehow The Hidden One was banished again despite Pandora’s work. While this opens up a ton of questions about who these Gods are and what world they were living in, it answers my questions about who Pandora is. So with one mystery resolved, an entirely new one opens up. Of course.

It was so refreshing to see the show take on Pandora’s mythology and explain it to the audience, and I’m very excited to see how the rest of The Hidden One plot holds up, especially now that he’s gotten that weapon/item that his brother had eons ago. What does that mean for the people in Sleepy Hollow? What will the weapon even do? It’s just an hourglass!

Additionally, this episode was fantastic because it proved that the “Devil” they had shown us in the trailer was not actually a Devil, but rather a competitor of Franklin’s who had resorted to magic and alchemy to change his form. I can’t begin to explain how happy I am that he’s not actually the Devil because that would have been so, so boring. Back in season 2 the show had alluded to God and the Devil with the angel, Orion, so I’m hoping that a Devil reveal is coming soon… but you know, the actual devil.

Speaking of the Devil of the episode, it’s always so interesting to see things from Ichabod’s past come to light in a new way every week. With the whole “monster of the week” type deal it can get a little repetitive and tiring seeing them do essentially the same routine, but this week it was different because the monster of the week had a direct correlation to the entire Hidden One plot.

Finally, there was no daddy drama this week but I’m sure with Abbie’s confession to Ichabod about the rune they will cross paths with Ezra Mills again to figure out what it is and how to stop it.

Everything is starting to come together this season, and I cannot wait to see where everyone ends up!
