Pitch Perfect star Skylar Astin is officially heading to The CW.

According to Entertainment Weekly, actor Skylar Astin has joined the cast of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Astin will be playing Greg on the series’ upcoming fourth season — a role previously held by actor Santino Fontana.

As fans of the series know, Fontana left the show at the beginning of season 2 and as a result, the showrunners were tasked with tying up his story arc in the span of the first four episodes of that season.

While in attendance at this year’s Television Critics Association press tour, showrunners Aline Brosh McKenna and Rachel Bloom (who also stars on the beloved series as Rebecca) revealed that bringing Greg back is an option that they’ve been exploring.

In addition to confirming Astin’s casting, they also revealed that the new Greg will be a “reimagined” version of the character.

“We felt like we had completed his arc a bit. Now bringing the character of Greg back, he is part of our storytelling. It’s a plot point in the story that the character is reimagined, so it’s going to be played by a different actor, which is Skylar,” McKenna told reporters in attendance according to EW.

Bloom additionally added that the move to cast a new actor as Greg definitely “feels experimental,” but that it feeds into the playful feel of the series as a whole.

“It’s a great statement on how our perception of people changes, and Greg is sort of a barometer for how Rebecca changes,” said Bloom.

The final season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend premieres on Friday, October 12 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
