Great news for those of us who loved reading author Becky Albertalli’s excellent debut novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda: A movie is now in the works.

Deadline reports Fox 2000 is teaming up with Temple Hill to adapt Becky’s beloved novel about an in-the-closest high schooler whose secret is suddenly threatened by a fellow student. Also threatened is Simon’s budding relationship with another in-the-closet student at the same high school nicknamed “Blue” who he’s pen pals with. Neither knows the identity of the other — they met through the anonymous abyss known as Tumblr.

Simon packs a lot of heart, in part because the titular character is adorable and honest.

We love that Fox and Temple Hill are working on this project together, because they’re the team who brought us The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns, and the Maze Runner films. In other words, they know how to adapt a book.

I recently finished reading Simon and asked Becky when I could expect a sequel (I couldn’t resist!). Her response to my tweet makes me feel like she’s considering writing a version of the same story told from Blue’s perspective:

Edit: I was wrong! In Hypable’s own interview with Becky back in April she offered this tease about the companion book:

“It actually takes place a few months before Simon begins (beginning in June, while Simon begins in October),” she told us. “It’s about the friends Abby left behind in Washington, DC when she moved to Georgia. So, Abby is back for a pretty significant role, and Simon and Nick get some shoutouts!”

Where do I start the petition for Logan Lerman to play Simon?

If you haven’t read Simon yet, I highly recommend that you do.
