Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are teaming up again for a new series where they are adapting a beloved fantasy epic into a television series.

Chances are, you’re pretty familiar with the dynamic duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost from their work together on the films in the Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End) or from the iconic late nineties/early-aughts series Spaced. The two have amazing chemistry together and create some pretty awesome TV and movies when they team up. Naturally, we got pretty excited when news broke that they’d be teaming up again for a new TV series.

As Deadline reports, Pegg and Frost will be working together to adapt the fantasy series Rivers of London into a television show. Pegg and Frost’s production company, Stolen Picture snagged the rights to the film after Frost read the first Rivers of London book on vacation, and promptly fell in love with the story.

Frost told Deadline that he was thrilled to find something that could be the “next Game of Thrones,” and Pegg said that they intend to make this adaptation an epic, sprawling one thanks to, “what TV offers us now, which is a cinematic playing field, you can tell these stories with scope and get into creative detail.”

For fans of the series, you needn’t worry about the story being bastardized and turned into something you don’t recognize for the series. Pegg and Frost will serve as executive producers alongside author Ben Aaronovitch. It was incredibly important for Pegg and Frost that Aaronovitch be a key part of the development team.

Part of the insistence on keeping Aaronovitch in the picture, aside from the two loving the source material, was Pegg’s own experiences as a writer. He explained their decision to ensure Aaronovitch was a key part of the series development to Deadline.

“Often as a writer, you are the absolute bottom of the food chain and treated like scum. As a writer, I understand what it’s like for someone to use you as a springboard rather than use your vision and it’s good to have writers involved as producers because they get it and we want to make a faithful adaptation that is a true reflection of the book.”

We’re excited to see what this awesome team can dream up. If Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s previous works are any indications, this is going to be a series you can’t miss. Plus, by keeping the author in the picture, this series is sure to excite both new fans and some of the original fans of the series.
