Last night the 2012 Satellite Awards were held, as the International Press Academy awarded Silver Linings Playbook with the top four awards.

The critics’ org awarded Silver Linings Playbook with five awards, Best Picture, Best Director (David O. Russell), Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress (Jennifer Lawrence), and Best Film Editing. Interestingly enough, Robert De Niro was not awarded Best Supporting Actor for his turn in the film, as that honor was awarded to Javier Bardem for Skyfall, who continues his late surge for an Oscar nom. Anne Hathaway picked up Best Supporting Actress for her role as Fantine in Les Miserables.

Life of Pi picked up a pair of awards for Best Adapted Screenplay (David Magee) and Best Cinematography (Claudio Miranda), while Flight edged out the film in the Best Visual Effects category. Mark Boal was awarded Best Original Screenplay for Zero Dark Thirty.

With Silver Linings Playbook getting a much-needed boost with the top-line awards, other contenders such as Lincoln, Les Miserables and Argo were represented in addiiton to the aforementioned Life of Pi and Zero Dark Thirty, proving yet again that this is an interesting Oscar race, to say the least.
