Dexter is purportedly due to commence filming for the eighth season of the hit television show. But what can we expect from the potentially final season of the cult program, which already boasts over 13 million Facebook fans?

Dexter Morgan, as played by Michael C. Hall, is the lovable serial killer and blood spatter analyst of Miami Metro in Showtime’s suitably named hit television series Dexter. Having run for an amazing seven addictive seasons though, and with the return date set for June 30, season 8 is still up in the air as whether it will be the final season.

Steadicam Operator Eric Fletcher has reportedly indicated that the show should begin production on Feb 11, in less than two weeks. However, there have been no mention of a title for the season 8 premiere, or much else for that matter!

The new season will of course feature Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan) and Jennifer Carpenter (Deborah Morgan). However, the new season has already seen new roles cast with members including Charlotte Rampling and Sean Patrick Flanery.

British actress Rampling has been cast in an apparently key role, as a neuro-psychiatrist specializing in young psychopaths, with a knack for profiling criminals (serial killers?) using unconventional methods. In turn, Flanery has been tipped as having been given the role of Jacob Elroy, an ex-police owner of a private investigation company in Miami.

With these two new characters looking likely to be set to trip Dexter up, all we can be sure of is that season 8 is not one to miss… and with no one confirming whether this season is definitely the last, fans will have to wait for an official statement to be made.

Don’t forget to put June 30 in your diary for Dexter season 8’s premiere on Showtime.
