Great news, Dexter fans! John Lithgow is officially on board to return for the upcoming Showtime revival!

Looks like Dexter will once again be coming face to face with Arthur Mitchell.

According to Deadline, actor John Lithgow has officially signed on to reprise his role as Arthur Mitchell for Showtime’s upcoming Dexter revival.

That Lithgow will be returning to reprise his role for the revival is bound to come as a bit of a shock to fans of the show. As those familiar with the hit Showtime series will likely recall, Arthur Mitchell (better known as the Trinity Killer) first burst onto the scene during the series’ fourth season. Arthur and Dexter (Michael C. Hall) squared off for much of that season before the titular serial killer eventually killed him off in the season finale.

Given that Lithgow’s character has already met his untimely demise, it’ll be interesting to see how showrunner Clyde Phillips goes about bringing his character back for the highly anticipated revival.

One thing to keep in mind however, is that John Lithgow is set to return for the Dexter revival in a guest starring role capacity, meaning that it’s likely that the Trinity Killer won’t have a massive role to play as far as the next chapter of Dexter’s story goes.

Showtime’s 10-episode Dexter revival is set to debut sometime in the Fall of 2021.
