Shonda Rhimes’ and Netflix’s upcoming Anna Delvey series, Inventing Anna, has zeroed in on its principle cast!

Update (10/31/19): Deadline reports that Veep vet Anna Chlumsky, plus Ozark Emmy winner Julia Garner have both been tapped to star in Shonda Rhimes upcoming Netflix limited drama series, Inventing Anna.

Told over the course of 10 episodes, Inventing Anna follows a journalist’s journey to investigate the case of Anna Delvey— the infamous New York City co artist who posed as a German heiress in order to talk her way into a life of luxury until she was caught in October 2018.

Garner will play Delvey, while Chlumsky will play Vivian the journalist. Investigating Anna won’t be easy though. In fact, the official synopsis for Inventing Anna teases a growing conflict of interest as Vivian’s relationship with Anna continues to grow.

Chlumsky and Garner aren’t the only ones who’ve officially joined the cast of the upcoming Shondaland series at Netflix.

In addition, it was also announced on Thursday (October 31) that actors Katie Lowes, Laverne Cox, and Alexis Floyd had all signed on to appear in the Rhimes-written limited series.

All three actresses will play former friends and acquaintances of Delvey, who fell, or almost fell, victim to her lies.

Specifically, Lowes will play Rachel— a woman “whose blind worship of Anna almost destroys her job, her credit and her life.”

Meanwhile, Cox will play celebrity trailer and life coach Kacy. Though Kacey also finds herself entranced by Anna, the synopsis for her character teases that she’s “mature and centered enough to stay out of any real trouble.”

Finally, Floyd will play an aspiring filmmaker named Neff who also happens to work as a hotel concierge and is well versed with the Big Apple and the big shots living in the city.

Original Story (6/8/18):
Shonda Rhimes has officially got her first project coming down the pipeline at Netflix!

Earlier this year, we learned that after years of producing original content with ABC, Shonda Rhimes had officially inked a new exclusive multi-year deal with Netflix.

Now, it looks like the woman behind television hits like Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal has her first Netflix Original lined up!

According to Deadline, Rhimes’ Shondaland production company and Netflix have officially acquired the rights to a recent New York Magazine article that was making some serious waves on the internet this past week.

The longform feature, which was written by Jessica Pressler, told the story of a con woman who went by the name of Anna Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin) who posed as a German heiress in order to talk her way into a life of luxury.

Pressure’s story, which took the internet by storm when it was first published on May 28, detailed how Delvey conned banks, businesses, and other friends in the socialite scene and used money accrued from her con to go on lavish international holidays, stay in expensive hotels, and much more.

Delvey carried on until last October when she was accused of being a con artist and later charged with multiple counts of grand larceny and theft of services. Currently, she’s being held without bond on Rikers Island and has pleaded not guilty.

Given how much traction the story got online, we’re sure Rhimes’ forthcoming Netflix Original will make for some serious must-binge television whenever it debuts.

Other than Rhimes, who is set to write the upcoming adapted series, there’s currently no word on who else might join the cast and crew of the upcoming Netflix Original. There’s also no word on when it’ll release.
