Voting for the Time magazine’s 100 poll has now closed, and Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch received a remarkable amount of votes. He placed higher than some of the world’s biggest political leaders, musicians and fellow actors!

Benedict came in 7th on the poll, with an impressive 91,840 positive votes. However, he will unfortunately not make it into the final list. Only the poll winners, Anonymous will join the 99 most influential people as chosen by Time magazine editors.

Regardless, his slightly unexpected high placing on the poll shows the growing popularity and influence that the actor holds, thanks largely to his portrayal of the great detective in Sherlock. Cumberbatch even finished higher than world leaders Barack Obama, David Cameron and The Queen. He also beat out competition from Lady Gaga, Adele, Beyoncé, Rhianna, Mark Zuckerberg, and Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawerence. His position in the poll would suggest that he is the 106th most influential person in the world over the last year.

Do you think Benedict deserved his high place in the poll? Should he have topped the list, or finished lower?
