It. is. on! Sherlock series 4 is now filming — and with a lady at the helm.

The team behind Sherlock made a formal announcement and tweeted a video from the set. The latter depicts Mark Gatiss (producer and Mycroft Holmes) holding a clap card which reveals the first episode’s director: Rachel Talalay. This is the first time a woman is directing an episode of Sherlock.

Said showrunner Steven Moffat in a statement today, “Sherlock series four —— here we go again! Whatever else we do, wherever we all go, all roads lead back to Baker Street, and it always feels like coming home. Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and terror and tragedy are looming. This is the story we’’ve been telling from the beginning and it’s about to reach its climax.””

PBS’ Masterpiece adds that Sherlock series 4’s plot “begins with the mercurial Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch), back once more on British soil as Doctor Watson (Martin Freeman) and his wife Mary (Amanda Abbington) prepare for their biggest challenge yet: becoming parents.”

Talalay has directed numerous TV shows including recent episodes of Legends of Tomorrow (“Last Reuge”), The Flash (“Fast Lane”), and Doctor Who (“Hell Bent,” “Heaven Sent,” “Death in Heaven,” “Dark Water”).

No photos of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in their roles have been revealed… yet. Also not revealed: series 4’s premiere date, though most are expecting it to appear at the end of 2016 or very early 2017, as Sherlock has in years past.

Something else not revealed: The title of each episode in series 4. Moffat has released them for previous seasons so fans could begin speculating over the titles and how they connect to the source material, which is always fun to do. Hopefully Moffat will release ’em this year!
