Good news and bad news: Today a new still from Sherlock series 4 debuted that depicts our beloved Benedict Cumberbatch with a hound. But there’s also some bad news.

First, let’s look at the good news to keep our souls warm. This new photo, above, depicts Sherlock in London with a dog, presumably pointing toward the scene of a crime. SO CUTE! We hope this dog has a starring roll in Sherlock season 4.

Okay, now the bad news. In a new interview, series creator Steven Moffat (who, keep in mind, is Troll in Chief), says that this could be the last season of Sherlock. He blames the forever-packed schedules of stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman when speaking with The Telegraph:

Steven Moffat, the executive producer of the BBC One show, said that he was “amazed” that the corporation had managed to secure “film stars” such as Cumberbatch, who plays the eponymous detective, and Martin Freeman, his sidekick Doctor Watson, for a fourth series, which is expected to air in early 2017.

He added: “I don’t know how long we can keep it going. I’m personally willing but I’m hardly the main draw. I would be moderately surprised if this was the last time we ever made this show. But it absolutely could be.”

He appears to be suggesting that it’s only getting more and more difficult to schedule them for new Sherlock episodes, meaning it’s gotten to the point where it may no longer be possible.

Sherlock series 4 is expected to premiere in early 2017. Speaking of the beloved show, earlier this week Benedict Cumberbatch and the new TV movie Sherlock: The Abominable Bride were nominated for Emmys! It’s a good week to be a fan of the show.
