At the end of the Sherlock series 2 finale re-run this evening on the BBC, the first Sherlock series 3 teaser trailer was unveiled!

In the first teaser, it looks like Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) is about to make his first encounter with his partner Watson (Martin Freeman) following what everyone thought was his death. Some of the supporting cast can be seen early in the teaser as well, like Mycroft and Mrs. Hudson:

This is the perfect teaser and ends, like the series 2 finale, on a nice cliffhanger. At San Diego Comic-Con, Moffat said that one of the focuses of series 3, episode 1 will be Watson’s emotional reaction to Sherlock’s sudden return.

Sherlock series 3 will premiere later this year on the BBC. An exact air date has not been announced, but producers have stated that they will make a final decision once episode 3 wraps production in early September.

It’s been a busy few weeks for fans of Sherlock. As the cast and crew film series 3, episode 3 “His Last Vow,” in Cardiff, creator Steven Moffat and producers Sue Vertue and Mark Gatiss revealed the first clip from the highly-anticipated season to fans at San Diego Comic-Con.

We’ve also been treated to our first official photo of Sherlock (Cumberbatch) and Watson (Freeman) in their series 3 roles.

Finally, earlier this week Vertue revealed the series’ lead villain, who will be played by Lars Mikkelsen.
