Following Monday’s table read of Sherlock series 3 episode 1, which reunited Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Martin Freeman (Watson) for the new series, Cumberbatch is now sharing his thoughts on the first script.

“You are in for an absolute stonker. It’s going to be a treat,” he said to Radio Times at an awards ceremony in London on Tuesday. “It’s a terrific episode,” he added. The actor took home an award for his new mini series Parade’s End, which recently premiered in the United States on HBO.

Cumberbatch also addressed Monday’s table read atmosphere: “[It was] great, it was really good fun. It’s really lovely to be back.” We had shared a photo of Freeman and him having fun on location.

At the same awards ceremony yesterday, Cumberbatch revealed that he and Freeman have signed on for Sherlock series 4. In addition, he hopes for the show to go on beyond these two upcoming series.

We’re thrilled to hear that Cumberbatch thinks so highly of the script. Sherlock series 3 begins filming on Monday. Two episodes will be filmed before the actors take a break to take care of other responsibilities (we presume Star Trek Into Darkness promotion for Cumberbatch and The Hobbit filming for Freeman). They will return a couple months later to film the third episode of the series. Sherlock is expected to premiere on television this winter.
