The title of Sherlock series 3, episode 1 is… “The Empty Hearse!”

Filming on series 3 commenced today, and in light of this news producer Mark Gatiss decided to release the name of the first episode via Twitter.

A week ago today Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman reunited for their first table read of the series. The BBC shared this great photo of the duo together.

Gatiss also shared a photo of the clapper which indicated the production’s start:

Cumberbatch was asked last week what he thought of the first script for series 3. “You are in for an absolute stonker. It’s going to be a treat,” he said to Radio Times at an awards ceremony in London on Tuesday. “It’s a terrific episode.” He also revealed that he’s already signed on for Sherlock series 4.

We’ll continue to follow any new details about Sherlock series 3 as they’re unveiled! In recent weeks, showrunners have said the plan is to shoot the first two episodes then take a break so Cumberbatch and Freeman can take care of other commitments. They’ll return later in the year for the final episode. The show is expected to premiere in the United Kingdom this winter, and hopefully a United States airing won’t be far behind.
