If you are excited for Sherlock series 3 and confident that the three episode story will be so good that you’ll want to watch it again and again, then you may as well pre-order it now on DVD/Blu-ray.

Sherlock series 3’s DVD/Blu-ray pre-order availability has arrived suspiciously early on Amazon U.K. The box art uses promotional material from series 2 featuring Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson (Martin Freeman).

Sherlock series 3 on DVD can be pre-ordered for $12.75 on DVD and $16.50 on Blu-ray.

A release date for neither the show’s television premiere or home entertainment premiere have yet to be unveiled. It is expected to premiere on BBC around fall or winter 2013 with a United States/PBS premiere in early 2014. If true, the DVD/Blu-ray could at least be available in the U.K. by late winter or early spring.

Those in the United States should hold off on using the above links to pre-order because they’re from Amazon’s United Kingdom store, meaning the DVD/Blu-rays will be specific to PAL-format players.

Perhaps the early addition of Sherlock series 3 suggests Amazon is anticipating strong sales for the release.

Sherlock creator Steven Moffat will lead a panel at San Diego Comic-Con next week to discuss the forthcoming season. Cumberbatch and Freeman won’t attend, but PBS promises “surprises” (which we hope are in the form of clips and a release date).
