PBS has released a clip from Sherlock season 3, episode 3 (the finale… already!) in which we see Watson in shock over his friend’s [spoiler].

The scene depicts Sherlock meeting Watson right after the former just spent time with his – wait for it – girlfriend! The news that Sherlock is dating someone comes as a shock to newly-married Watson, who can’t focus on the topic at hand because… girlfriend!

Sherlock’s girlfriend is named Ginny, and he says that they are in a “good place. Very affirming.”

Watch below:

The detective’s real worry is a new villain named Magnussen. He compares him to a shark at an aquarium. “Those floating, fat faces. Those dead eyes. That’s what he is,” he says. “I’ve dealt with murderers, psychopaths, terrorists, serial killers, none of them can turn my stomach like Charles Augustus Magnussen.”

The synopsis for the finale reads, “In the final episode of this new series, written by Steven Moffat, a case of stolen letters leads Sherlock Holmes into a long conflict with Charles Augustus Magnussen, the Napoleon of blackmail, and the one man he truly hates. But how do you tackle a foe who knows the personal weakness of every person of importance in the Western world?”

Sherlock and Watson will take on Magnussen this Sunday when the season 3 finale of Sherlock airs on PBS in the United States. The episode begins at 10 p.m. eastern/pacific following a new episode of Downton Abbey.

Do you think Sherlock’s girlfriend will last? Is it a response to Watson’s marriage?
