PBS has released yesterday’s Sherlock season 3 episode online for free streaming.

Sherlock season 3, episode 1’s online availability makes it possible for anyone to watch the episode as many times as you want.

The episode is set two years after the season 2 finale and explains (sort of) how Sherlock survived his major fall. We also get to see our lead detective re-introduce himself to Watson who’s begun to move on from the death of his best friend.

The episode’s synopsis: “Two years after the devastating effects of [Series 2’s finale] The Reichenbach Fall, Dr John Watson has got on with his life. New horizons, romance and a comforting domestic future beckon. But, with London under threat of a huge terrorist attack, Sherlock Holmes is about to rise from the grave with all the theatricality that comes so naturally to him. It’s what his best friend wanted more than anything, but for John Watson it might well be a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’! If Sherlock thinks everything will be just as he left it though, he’s in for a very big surprise.”

The next episode of Sherlock airs Sunday, January 26 at 10 p.m. eastern/pacific on PBS. Each season of the show has three 90-minute long episodes. The show stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock and Martin Freeman as Watson.

The two year wait between seasons was painful. Thankfully, Sherlock series 4 may air in the United Kingdom as early as this Christmas, according to a source. Steven Moffat has said that he and co-creator Mark Gatiss are already developing series 4 and 5.
