The game is afoot! While at last night’s BAFTA Television Awards, Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Gatiss spoke about the shows future – and the latter confirmed the source material for the series three opener! This post contains spoilers.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the shows creator, writer and star confirmed that the first episode of series three will be loosed based on “The Adventure of The Empty House”!

Check out the video interview below.

While we aren’t too surprised, it’s obviously great to have the detail confirmed by the man himself. This news also seems to confirm that Sebastian Moran will be the new villain, after Moriarty killed himself in the stunning “Reichenbach Fall”. We don’t know for sure if Moran will be the main antagonist of the series, but as the only villain of “The Empty House” and one of the most popular in the Sherlock Holmes canon, it certainly seems that he will be a big player when Sherlock returns next year.

Are you excited by this news? Who would you like to see play Moran?
