The legendary literary creation of Arthur Conan Doyle has bagged itself an impressive record!

Sherlock Holmes is now the Most Portrayed Literary Human Character in Film and TV (Radio Times reports), having been depicted an astonishing 254 times since his creation in 1887’s “A Study In Scarlet.” The character has been played by a wide range of actors including Basil Rathbone, Ellie Norwood, Jeremy Brett, Christopher Lee, Robert Downey Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch.

The most recent actor to don the metaphorical deerstalker is Jonny Lee Miller, set to play the great detective in the upcoming Elementary will will premiere this fall. If you missed it, you can view the first promo for the series here.

This record stands as testament to the impact Conan Doyle’s legendary character has had on the world, over 100 years since he made his first deduction.
