In a poll conducted by the Radio Times, BBC1 series Sherlock has been named the most beloved United Kingdom television show of 2012.

Creator and writer Steven Moffat, who’s also well known in the British television community for Doctor Who, responded via e-mail to the Radio Times after learning of the recongition by his fans. In true Moffat spirit, he decided to thank everyone by trolling.

“I’ve just had a word with all the others, and we’re so pleased by this latest accolade from the Radio Times, we’ve decided to tell you how Sherlock survived the fall – oops, we’re out of space!” he wrote.

Moffat is referring to the jump Sherlock took off the roof of St. Bart’s hospital in the series 2 finale. The answer is expected to be revealed in series 3, which is slated to begin filming sometime in 2013.

“Mark [Gatiss, co-creator] and I always thought this was our vanity project. The one we could get away with, because of everything else,” he added elsewhere in his thank you e-mail. “For it to become such a massive hit, with all the reviews and awards you could wish for, has been the best and the biggest surprise.”

Sherlock series 3 was expected to begin filming in January, but the busy schedules of rising stars Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch forced the schedule back until later in the year. While production was delayed, showrunners were quick to clarify that at this time, the series’ television premiere has not been pushed back.

IS Sherlock the best show out of the United Kingdom in 2012? And should we rescind the award after Moffat trolled us yet again?
